Information for WELLS FARGO REVOLVER, USA 1849:
ells Fargo revolver, designed by S. Colt, USA 1849.
These firearms were Samuel Colt’s answer to the demand of a growing civilian market for a light handgun. They found much favour with gamblers, prospectors, and "men of change" for whom the dragoon models were much too heavy and oversized. Many settlers on the Oregon Trail, as well as Civil War soldiers, chose these revolvers as a fast handling back-up pocket gun.
The Wells Fargo model was the single largest selling model of the family of Colt pocket percussion revolvers until well into the 20th century.
It is a smaller version of the ’1851 Navy’ and usually comes without attached loading levers.
